<image:title>Field Notes - The Blinding of Polyphemus: Myth, Marble, and Power at Tiberius’s Villa - Sperlonga is one of those rare Italian towns that feels almost untouched by time. Perched on a rocky promontory between Rome and Naples, its maze of whitewashed lanes winds up toward a hilltop crowned with bougainvillea and the scent of the sea. From every turn, glimpses of turquoise water flash between arches and stairways. Down below, long sandy beaches stretch in both directions — lively in summer, peaceful in the shoulder seasons. The town itself is small but full of charm: family-run trattorias, tiny boutiques, and cafés where locals linger over espresso as the day drifts by. In the evenings, the old streets glow gold in the fading light, and the sound of the sea rises softly from below — a reminder that Sperlonga is, above all, a place to slow down and savor.</image:title>
